================================================================
The Fire Fighters BP program was created in 2017 in response to the high number of premature deaths from stroke and heart attack among Fire Fighters. According to 20 years of OSHA data, heart attack in firefighters is the number one cause of line of duty deaths nationwide.
The First Responders BP program connects Fire Fighters and others directly with - the Mount Sinai Cardiology team.
The First Responders BP program exists to identify untreated or inadequately treated high blood pressure — the number one killer of first responders while on duty — and connects the First Responders with the Mount Sinai Cardiology Team as needed to provide the best possible testing and care.
Most importantly, the BP program provides on-going BP monitoring so you will not develop high BP without being aware of it. Otherwise, you can have high BP for decades and never realize it.
How does the First Responders BP program brings the Mount Sinai Cardiology Team to you?
You receive a WIRELESS BP cuff from your Union. AND you are also invited to purchase any basic wireless BP cuff on your own You measure your pressure twice a month if under 40 years old. And weekly of you are over 40 years old. Mt. Sinai cardiology gets your measurements as they happen. In this way, your blood pressure cannot creep up over years without your awareness during your entire career.
The goal of the First Responders BP program is to identify, manage and, most importantly, prevent elevated blood pressure (HTN or Hypertension) over years and even decades to reduce the onset of heart disease and stroke. With 100% confidentially.
You can receive CONFIDENTIAL follow up medical recommendations from the Mt. Sinai cardiology team and/or your own medical doctor.
You are also encouraged to contact your own doctor with any questions or concerns as you continue to self-monitor your blood pressure each year.
